Monday Film Fest and Zombie Porn?!

On Monday I arranged to work on some projects at Inppares, including a poster campaign about modern healthy masculinity, Peru's first Marcha de las Putas aka Slut Walk (yes, controversial title is necessary, go click on the link), and political advocacy for a law punishing anti-gay hate crimes. See Tuesday's post for more about homophobia in Peru.

I ate a tasty triple with olives, egg, and cheese! A really handsome guy made my sandwich at the restaurant next to Inppares.

For lunch, I went back to the same restaurant mostly because I wanted a sandwich, but also because I wanted to see that guy again. Good thing it took forever for him to make my sandwich because it took that long for me to stop staring at him and get the courage to ask his name. Andre. :) The soy burger he made me was so good that I ate half of it before I could get the motivation to take a picture. It has crunchy mini-fries on it.

My work friends Juan Pedro and Andre Luis. :)
Rocio laughing until she cried at Andre Luis's antics.
After work, Juan Pedro and I went to MHOL to see some short films from the Lima international gay film festival. The first two were really cute and funny, and I giggled a lot. But the third was devastatingly sad, dealing with a young lesbian in South Africa who was a victim of "corrective rape" by her cousin's friends trying to make her straight.

After the third short film, we left early to take a bus to Miraflores to meet Andre Luis. He had convinced us to see L.A. Zombie, a zombie gay porn that was showing as part of the gay film festival. It was just as ridiculous, gross, and hilarious as it sounds. The music was a sad symphony, which made everything funnier. But it seems there was actually a deeper meaning to the story, which I learned both at the end and in reading about it online later. The main character believed himself to be a zombie because he is schizophrenic and thinks having sex with dead men brings them back to life. Although that does make for a comically gruesome movie, it is pretty sad. The theater population was 95% male.

Us at the movie theater.

After the movie, Juan Pedro, Andre and their friends and I went out to eat. I got a supposedly Middle Eastern pita sandwich which was amazing.

Note the facial expression upon eating.

After food, Andre Luis called his boyfriend who came to pick us up in their car. It was awesome not to have to worry about transportation at night. I got dropped off at my apartment and went straight to sleep with no desire to write my blog. ;)

  1. I promise to watch L.A. Zombie at one point or another. I had actually heard of it before you sent me the link about it. It was earlier in the year (or maybe late last year) when the Australian film board refused classification of the film. In Australia films MUST be rated (unlike the United States, in which the MPAA is a voluntary system and films can be released Unrated, even though advertising venues balk from advertising Unrated & NC-17 films). So if the board refuses to classify a film, it basically censors it, and it is illegal in the country. The same thing happened with Pier Paolo Pasolini's final film "Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom" (that really fucked up one that I showed to the Graham boys this past year), even as recently as 2008 (it was submitted for classification multiple times). So yeah. "L.A. Zombie" is illegal in Australia. :)
